Brazil and China have agreed to collaborate on the development of semiconductors, cybersecurity, and 5G, according to Reuters. This might be advantageous for Huawei, which is currently under fire.
During Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s official visit to China, 15 memorandums of understanding on the launch of a sixth satellite above the Amazon, cybersecurity, and 5G were signed between the two countries.
Brazil welcomes Chinese investment, but several Western countries have outlawed Huawei equipment and the social media application TikTok because of security concerns.
According to Celso Amorim, Lula’s foreign policy advisor, the agreements also made it possible for China to build a semiconductor factory in Brazil. Brazil “will not veto” the construction of the factory and is interested in working with China to develop the technology.
In Sao Paulo, Huawei already operates two infrastructure facilities, one of which is a smart factory.
Moreover, Reuters also reported that Lula also visited a Huawei campus and tried out a virtual reality headset. The president stated that the visit was a demonstration that they want to tell the world that they don’t have prejudices in their relations with the Chinese.
