AWS Launches 2nd Region in UAE

Amazon Web Services (AWS) today announced the launch of its second Region in the Middle East. With a planned $5 billion investment in the regional economy through 2036, AWS projects that its estimated spending on the development and operation of the new Region will support an average of roughly 6,000 full-time employments annually at external vendors.

Additionally, it is anticipated that the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region would increase the UAE’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by an additional $11 billion over the next 15 years.

According to Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, for Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a whole, the launch of the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region marks an important turning point in their efforts to create opportunities for all. By utilizing cutting-edge technology to help corporate growth, it enhances Abu Dhabi’s commitment to establishing itself as a leading digital economy.

He also added that the expanded cloud capabilities made possible by AWS are anticipated to produce important advantages and efficiency that can help enterprises succeed and bring about huge economic benefits for the country.

Meanwhile, for Abdulla Abdul Aziz AlShamsi, the Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Abu Dhabi wants to make transformational technology possible so that both residents and businesses can benefit. Smart infrastructure is enabling new economic opportunities, encouraging equitable growth, and developing opportunities for collaboration across their innovation ecosystem, powering the booming private and public sectors. Through numerous beneficial ecosystem-enabling relationships, ADIO is assisting in this and bolstering Abu Dhabi’s status as a pioneer in the region’s digital transformation.

With the opening of the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region, AWS is enabling even more customers to utilize the power of the cloud to spur innovation throughout the UAE.

Furthermore, AWS is also making an investment in the local economy by generating jobs, providing education resources, and training for highly sought-after technology skills in order to further the strategic priorities of the UAE.
