Guizhou Cloud Big Data, the data center Apple uses for iCloud in China, has prohibited staff from leaving for a week due to the COVID lockdown.
According to Bloomberg, nearly all of Guiyang’s 10 districts, including the one where the data center is located, had areas locked down by China. The business disclosed that for the previous week, it had been operating under a “closed loop” system.
“Faced with a dire situation, we need courageous people on the front lines,” announced the company on a WeChat posting.
The posting apparently also stated that the data center was currently implementing a lockdown closed loop system, where employees are required to remain on the premises.
This data center is used by other companies besides Apple. Concerning how its clients are being affected, Guizhou Cloud Big Data remained silent.
China’s health authorities have been putting strict lockdown measures in place since mid-2022. They were able to stop the spread of COVID, but over 100 of Apple’s key suppliers were also affected.
