Ammunition Producer Accuses TikTok Data Center of Using Up Power and Impeding Business Expansion

Europe’s top ammunitions manufacturer blames TikTok data center for utilizing all the available electricity in the region and impeding the intended expansion of its factory.

The ammo manufacturer mentioned that it was unable to meet the demand for its ammunitions because a local data center, that has TikTok as it’s main client, was using all the electricity.

“We are concerned because we see our future growth is challenged by the storage of cat videos,” Morten Brandtzæg, Nammo’s chief executive, told the Financial Times. Nammo is co-owned by the Norwegian government and a Finnish state-controlled defense company.

There was a spike in artillery shells due to the on-going war in Ukraine which led to the increase in demand in ammunitions.

It was further reported that the local energy company had stated that there was no additional capacity available after promising it to the data center as it works on a first come, first served basis.

Green Mountain, a data center provider in Norway, announced that TikTok plans to construct three data centers in Hamar this year and the option of building two more by 2025.
