Amazon plans to invest US$ 10 billion to build a new data center campus in Montgomery County, Missouri, marking one of the largest technology infrastructure investments in the state’s history. The data center campus is intended to support growing demand for cloud computing infrastructure as businesses and organizations increasingly rely on digital services.

The project was announced during a press conference attended by state officials, local leaders, economic development organizations and utility partners, and is expected to generate significant infrastructure investment and economic activity in the region.

Local officials estimate the development will generate hundreds of millions of dollars in property tax revenue over the next 25 years as detailed in an Amazon press release.

“Today’s announcement represents more than a major investment in Missouri’s future—it represents new opportunities for Montgomery County and the surrounding region,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “Projects like this create lasting benefits for local communities by supporting critical infrastructure improvements, generating new tax revenue for schools and public services, and strengthening the foundation for future economic growth.”

Amazon Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer David Zapolsky said, “We’re building data centers that will create hundreds of new jobs, support educators and students, and strengthen local infrastructure.”

Amazon is also working with local utility Ameren Missouri and will cover all costs associated with providing electrical service to the campus, including grid connection expenses. On the sustainability front, Amazon is also partnering with agricultural technology company Arable Labs on a water conservation initiative aimed at improving irrigation efficiency that could reduce water consumption by approximately 100 million gallons.

Industry analysts have noted growing demand for large-scale data center capacity as cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads and digital services continue to expand. The Missouri project adds to Amazon’s broader investment in data center infrastructure across the United States.
