Amazon is set to funnel 7.85 trillion South Korean won (approximately $5.88 billion) into South Korea’s cloud computing infrastructure by 2027. This move is in response to the escalating competition among various cloud computing providers within the South Korean market.

Amazon inaugurated its Asia-Pacific data center in Seoul back in 2016 and has since committed a substantial 2.73 trillion won to the South Korean market, as confirmed by the local arm of Amazon Web Services Inc.

Yonhap reported that Ham Kee-ho, who leads Amazon’s cloud computing division locally, expressed that this substantial investment initiative aims to position South Korea as a global leader in the realm of internet-based cloud applications.

South Korea has become a pioneer in the world of cloud innovation positioning itself at the forefront of progress. Driven by goals and unwavering determination the country is wholeheartedly dedicated to unlocking the potential of cloud computing.

Earlier this year, the South Korean Science Ministry announced the opening of a massive computing data center for artificial intelligence research as part of the country’s strategy to create a top-tier AI research network.

With the potential of cloud computing in the country, Samsung SDS also announced its newly constructed data center in Dongtan District in Hwaseong City of Gyeonggi Province, the country’s first facility dedicated to high-performance computing (HPC), to demonstrate the company’s power in the B2B cloud computing industry.
