Alibaba Cloud has recently launched two data centers in Johor bringing its total facilities to five in Malaysia, its largest presence in Southeast Asia, the company announced. The facilities form part of the firm’s previously announced US$ 53 billion (RM223 billion) investment in AI and cloud infrastructure in 2025.

Offering a public cloud region, its second in Malaysia, the two facilities contributed to the company’s reach to 104 availability zones across 32 regions, according to reports.

Central to its strategy is its move to tap into the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) markets which have been enthusiastically embracing its artificial intelligence (AI) services which the firm said comes at a cheaper price but with better performance compared to its rivals.

Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Malaysia general manager Choong Hon Keat reportedly said at the launch in Kuala Lumpur that its local customers using Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure include TNG Digital and YTL AI Labs.
