Asia Pacific & Middle East hyperscale data center provider, AirTrunk, has announced the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, a developer of large-scale data centers with a strong presence in India. The deal marks AirTrunk’s entry into one of the world’s fastest growing digital and AI infrastructure markets.
In a press release, AirTrunk said that the transaction will give it immediate access to Lumina’s development pipeline, existing contracts and relationships, and operating capabilities. This includes an approximately 600 MW portfolio of planned capacity, representing up to US$ 5 billion of future development potential. The platform will continue to be supported by long-term capital from Blackstone and CPPIB.
Lumina is a scaled and established data center platform in India, with operations across three Tier 1 markets in India – Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The business brings execution capability, a development pipeline and a focus on AI-ready, energy efficient infrastructure.
Robin Khuda, Founder & CEO of AirTrunk, said, “India is one of the largest and fastest growing markets for hyperscale and AI infrastructure worldwide, and expanding in this market is a significant milestone for AirTrunk’s broader APAC strategy. By acquiring Lumina CloudInfra, we are uniquely positioned to deliver the scale, speed, and performance our customers need as they expand across the APAC region.”
Sujeet Deshpande, Co-Founder & CEO of Lumina CloudInfra, said, “By bringing our team together with AirTrunk, we combine local strength with global platforms in design, construction, operations, safety, quality, and technology – along with access to AirTrunk’s global customer network and capital strength. Together, our teams will grow, delivering greater consistency, scale and opportunity for our people, customers, and partners.”
Readers would recall that AirTrunk was acquired by Blackstone in late 2024. Meanwhile, Lumina CloudInfra is also backed by Blackstone.
Peng Wei Tan, Senior Managing Director – Real Estate at Blackstone said, “This partnership marks a meaningful expansion of our data center portfolio and reinforces one of Blackstone’s highest conviction themes, digital infrastructure. As the world’s largest investor in data centers with the leading platform in Asia Pacific, we deliver scale and deep expertise to meet the rising demand for high quality digital infrastructure across the region’s fastest growing economies.”
Post acquisition, AirTrunk will scale to more than over 3 GW of operating and planned capacity, across 20 campuses in six operating regions, namely – Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India.
