Malaysian construction giant Sunway Construction Group Bhd has secured a RM1.74 billion (US$430 million) contract from an unnamed international hyperscaler to build a data center in Bandar Serendah, Selangor, the firm announced in an exchange filing yesterday. The scope covers structural construction, supporting infrastructure and mechanical, electrical and plumbing works, with construction scheduled to begin in Q4 2026 and completion targeted for Q4 2028.

This is Sunway Construction’s seventh data center-related contract this year, bringing its year-to-date new orders to RM9.8 billion and outstanding order book to RM13.4 billion.

This came on the heels of another contract announced a day earlier – a RM920.8 million (US$227 million) contract to provide additional mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) fit-out works for an ongoing data center development in Johor.

The additional works were awarded by an unnamed US-headquartered tech firm with the letter of award serving as instruction to commence works, which are targeted for completion by 1Q 2028.
