Japan’s NTT Data Group, a unit of telecommunications giant NTT yesterday opened a 12MW new Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center (JKT2A) in Jakarta, according to Antara News, Indonesian state news agency.
“The strength of data centers in Indonesia is the number of users. All data comes from users and connected devices, and Indonesia is the largest market. Therefore, Indonesia remains a very important market for NTT,” said Yasuhiro Kajiki, Managing Director Japan and APAC of NTT Global Data Center.
Yasuhiro further said the expansion is in line with Indonesia’s position as the main market and hence remains NTT’s investment priority in Southeast Asia. He added that AI data centers are now the trend and growing rapidly in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, while development is slower in Singapore due to land and electricity constraints.
Yesterday, w.media reported that NTT Data is seeking to buy additional land in Indonesia as part of its two- to-three- year data center expansion plan. Since 2015, NTT has invested US$ 500 million in data centers in Indonesia.
According to its website, Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center is built to Tier III design certifications and is designed to be a 100 per cent green data center. It can accommodate high-density racks of up to 40kW over 5,800 square meters of IT space.
Jakarta 2A is part of a larger campus, Jakarta 2 Data Center which features a network with connections to more than 150 telcos, internet service providers and fiber-optic carriers, providing high-speed connectivity and a direct fiber connection to the even larger Jakarta 3 Data Center (located 35kms away in Bekasi, with a 45MW IT load capacity).
The APN Connect service that utilizes All-Photonics Network (APN) optical network technology connecting the JKT2/JKT2A facility with JKT3 with a high-capacity, low-latency connectivity line was launched at the same time. The inter-facility network facilitates real-time data synchronization across different geographic locations.
