SoleCrypt, a London-based technology company developing sustainable, solar-powered artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) data centers, has announced the SoleCrypt AI Campus at NVIDIA GTC Berlin. The campus is set to be constructed in Bizerte, Tunisia, with operations targeted to begin in 2028.
According to a press release, the campus is planned to have a total capacity of 40 MW. The first phase will deliver 7 MW of capacity, designed around the NVIDIA HGX Rubin NVL8 platform, with as many as 1,728 GPUs.
SoleCrypt said that the campus represented a significant step toward developing sovereign AI infrastructure in North Africa. The company said that the campus would be supported by a dedicated 60 MW solar and battery energy storage system project in Tozeur. The renewable energy project would contribute to Tunisia’s national grid and support the growth of AI infrastructure. The facility will be located 3.6 km by routed fiber path from the Medusa subsea cable.
Hosted.AI, Meinhardt, Maerifa Solutions, Supermicro, Schneider Electric, and Sterling & Wilson Data Center have been named as partners for the Bizerte facility.
Earlier this year, SoleCrypt and Schneider Electric signed a memorandum of understanding to study and co-develop next-generation data centers in Tunisia. Under the collaboration, SoleCrypt will provide sites with connectivity to the national grid and infrastructure that enables sub-10 millisecond latency to Europe. Schneider Electric will act as a key technology advisor, providing AI data center reference architectures codeveloped with NVIDIA, as well as medium- and low-voltage electrification solutions, secure power systems, liquid cooling, and intelligent infrastructure management through EcoStruxure IT.
“Our project positions Tunisia as a true digital bridge between Africa and Europe, serving industrial players, fintechs, and artificial intelligence laboratories. We want to work with Schneider Electric to transform Tunisia into a Mediterranean super hub for sustainable digital infrastructure,” Amir Ben Gacem, SoleCrypt co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, said in February.
