FiveNines Group, an international data center infrastructure business, has announced that it will partner with Nexus Core Systems, an AI infrastructure company, to oversee development of a 20 MW data center on the outskirts of Casablanca, Morocco.
The data center will form part of the Nexus AI Factory project being developed by Nexus Core Systems and will be purpose-built for high-density AI computing. FiveNines Group has been appointed to lead a team responsible for the design management, technical governance, consultant coordination, constructability, and procurement strategy.
“We are delighted to partner with Nexus Core Systems in order to construct an advanced data centre in North Africa. This project will bring together our international data centre expertise with Moroccan architects, engineers, technical advisers, and relevant authorities. It further demonstrates the capability of FiveNines Group to undertake critical infrastructure projects of the highest standard alongside global industry leaders,” said Gerry Curran, FiveNines Group Chief Executive Officer.
“We are very pleased with the cooperation and services FiveNines Group has provided so far. Their team has supported us well as we shape the design and delivery approach for the Morocco data centre. We look forward to continuing our work together on this ambitious project,” said Bastian Remmlinger, Nexus Core Systems Head of Infrastructure.
FiveNines Group will coordinate the early-stage process of the project and manage briefing, feasibility, design strategy, and concept design. This work will feed into a coordinated design package for engagement with authorities and permit submission.
“Our team members have wide experience in designing and delivering data centres and other mission critical construction projects to tight deadlines and the highest technical specifications, with a strong emphasis on safety, sustainability and compliance,” Curran added.
Nexus Core Systems announced the Nexus AI Factory project in April alongside the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development. The project is set to be powered entirely by renewable energy from TAQA Morocco.
The AI factory is backed by a US$ 1.2 billion investment and will come online in two phases through 2027. The first phase will see 16 MW of capacity deployed and the second phase adding a further 20 MW. The facility aims to have a total of 500 MW of capacity at full buildout.
