Amazon.com, Inc. has yesterday signed an agreement with Malaysian developer, Sunsuria Berhad to purchase land in Sepang, Selangor, for RM 316.84 million (US$ 77.66 million) to build a data center. The agreement was signed by Amazon Data Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of A100 Row, Inc. (an Amazon subsidiary involved in AWS infrastructure). Sunsuria is represented by its 99.99 per cent-owned subsidiary, Sunsuria City Sdn Bhd.
The land is a freehold vacant commercial land spanning 183,973 square metres (1.98 million sq ft) and its proposed use is “to host data processing services and infrastructure.” The completion date is expected to be 2nd quarter of 2027, according to Sunsuria’s Bursa filing.
Sunsuria said the proposed disposal allows it to unlock and realise the value of its investment in the land which currently does not generate any income. The sale is expected to yield a net gain of about RM50.34 million, the cash proceeds of which will be used to undertake construction of infra works on the land, repay bank borrowings and as working capital.
The purchase is subject to the state’s consent and shareholders’ approval.
