Tencent Cloud, the cloud business of Chinese technology giant Tencent Holdings Ltd, has launched its first cloud region in Malaysia, comprising up to three availability zones in Johor. The new cloud region will enable companies to scale locally, expand regionally, and accelerate their AI-driven innovation.

“The new Cloud Region in Malaysia will serve as a critical node within our global infrastructure, enabling enterprises to scale locally, expand regionally, and accelerate their AI-driven innovation. Through this investment, we aim to deepen our support for Malaysia’s digital transformation journey and contribute to the continued growth of its AI ecosystem,” said Bluefin Jiannan Zhao, VP of Tencent Cloud and MD of Tencent Cloud International for Asia Pacific.

Zhao added that Malaysia remains a key market in Tencent Cloud’s growth strategy across Asia and is a potential regional hub for its Southeast Asian operations.

The Johor cloud zones join Tencent Cloud’s 66 other availability zones across 23 regions globally including Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

Prior to the launch, Tencent Cloud’s footprint in Malaysia consists of live streaming and video-on-demand. Over the past six months, there has been increasing demand from banks, insurers, payment gateway firms and large companies, according to Nucky Fang, Tencent Cloud International and Malaysia general manager.

The announcement was made at Tencent Cloud C-Suite Dialogue 2026 in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
