Envision commissions 2 GW AI infrastructure campus in Inner Mongolia

Envision Energy (Envision), a Chinese multinational corporation, has announced the commissioning of the Envision Galaxy Campus in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia. The AI infrastructure campus, powered directly by renewable energy, is designed to accelerate the deployment of large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) with 2 GW of capacity. 

The Galaxy Campus is the first flagship project under Envision’s Mission Gobi initiative, announced at VivaTech in Paris in June 2026. The initiative aims to develop 5GW of green AI computing capacity in desert and arid regions worldwide by 2030.

According to a press release, the 120,000-square-meter AI supercomputing facility is designed to deliver one million PFLOPS of computing power and support one million AI accelerators when fully built. The campus uses Envision’s AI Power System, which integrates renewable generation, transmission infrastructure and energy storage.

Ricky Zheng, General Manager of Envision’s AIDC (AI Data Center), said, “The next frontier of AI is infrastructure, as AI models become larger and more compute-intensive, the limiting factors are increasing power availability, network performance and energy efficiency. Envision Galaxy Campus combines energy, networking and physical infrastructure at unprecedented scale, enabling hyperscalers, technology companies and AI innovators to deploy and scale the next generation of AI workloads.”

The Envision digital infrastructure hub will leverage a combination of wind and solar renewable energy resources, transmission infrastructure, and AI-focused energy management capabilities to support large-scale AI clusters that demand high computing capacity and low-latency connectivity. 

DC market insights reported that China is establishing AI specialised zones in Beijing, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia since these areas provide attractive conditions, including tax benefits, favorable regulations, and access to renewable energy resources. Regional governments are coordinating AI infrastructure expansion with local innovation ecosystems, enabling faster deployment and greater scalability.
