Trentar Private Limited, the technology and infrastructure arm of Dorf Ketal Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra for a proposed investment of Rs 30,000 crore (US$ 3.3 billion) to develop a 500 MW green integrated hyperscale data center project in the Indian state.

As outlined in a press release, Trentar exchanged the memorandum with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Invest Maharashtra initiative. Under the MoU, the state government will coordinate the relevant permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances, and incentives in accordance with prevailing policies and regulations.

“Maharashtra has laid a strong foundation for India’s digital economy, and we are proud to contribute to the State’s next phase of growth. For more than three decades, our Group has delivered complex, mission-critical infrastructure through engineering excellence and operational discipline. We will bring that experience to a modular Data Center campus built for rapid deployment and scalable growth, with sustainability, advanced technology and cost efficiency at its core,” said Subodh Menon, Trentar Private Limited Founder and Vice Chairman.

The firm will combine its capabilities across energy storage, power systems, resource management, and digital technologies to bring the project to life. Trentar aims to source 51 percent of the data center’s power requirements from renewable sources. It will also evaluate treated-water reuse and water-efficient cooling solutions. Detailed design and feasibility studies will inform the solutions Trentar leans on for the project.

Trentar says that the data center will serve as a cornerstone for its digital infrastructure platform through the creation of a scalable, sustainable backbone for AI, cloud, high-performance computing, and data-intensive applications. The facility will also feed India’s growing need for big-data analytics, large-scale data processing, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Last month, w.media reported that the Government of Maharashtra and Tata Group were working to expedite the development of an Innovation City near the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The state is said to be targeting 5.7 GW of data center capacity by 2032 as it pushes to grow the economy from US$ 660 billion to US$ 1 trillion by 2030.

Across India, the data center market was valued at US$ 9.79 billion in 2025, according to Arizton Advisory & Intelligence. The market value is projected to grow to US$ 21.03 billion by 2031 as digitalization, government support, growing connectivity, and forward-thinking regulations draw investors to the country.
