True Internet Data Center (True IDC), one of the largest data center and cloud service providers in Thailand, and part of the Charoen Pokphand Group, has announced an investment of 6 billion baht (US$ 181 million) to build its seventh data center in northern Bangkok. The new data center is being developed as an AI-focused hyperscale facility designed to support large-scale computing workloads and high-performance cloud infrastructure.
Scheduled to begin operations in Q3 2027, the facility will connect to Thailand’s largest core network hubs, enabling the transfer and exchange of large volumes of domestic and international data. According to a True IDC press release, the infrastructure is intended to support cloud platforms, AI applications and other digital services that require real-time processing, and the site has been designed with network resilience and security features.
“Today, Cloud and AI are crucial mechanisms and engines driving and enhancing business competitiveness. According to IDC, investments in AI and GenAI in the Asia-Pacific region will grow fivefold, reaching a value of 11 trillion baht by 2029, representing an average annual growth rate of 38.4 percent,” said Thanasorn Jaidee, Managing Director, True IDC shedding light on the need to develop an AI-focused facility. “However, a major challenge for businesses today is accessing AI Hyperscale-level infrastructure capable of fully supporting advanced processing. Our goal is to build a world-class data center to support such infrastructure.”
True IDC also revealed that the project is being built using modular construction techniques and is designed to support high-density CPU and GPU workloads. The facility will include redundant power systems and support both air-cooling and liquid-cooling technologies, depending on customer requirements.
The facility will operate in accordance with standards established by the Uptime Institute and will incorporate data governance, environmental management and energy-efficiency practices aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards. It added that the project is designed to maintain efficient Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) levels.
The investment comes as Thailand seeks to expand its digital infrastructure and attract greater investment in cloud computing and AI. Industry participants have increasingly highlighted the need for local hyperscale infrastructure to support AI development, data sovereignty requirements and growing enterprise demand for computing capacity.
