Google has announced a US$ 15 billion investment in data center infrastructure in Montgomery County, Missouri, centered on New Florence. The tech giant’s investment is expanding local infrastructure capacity and energy affordability programs and comply with Missouri’s consumer protections under Senate Bill 4, signed by Governor Mike Kehoe in 2025, including paying for 100 percent of the electricity used by the data center and covering operational infrastructure costs.
According to a Missouri state government press release, Google has contracted over 1 GW of new generation capacity in Missouri while its partnership with Ameren Corporation, supports development of 500 MW additional capacity. Google also worked with Ameren and Energy to implement the Capacity Commitment Framework in Missouri, which requires large energy users to pay for their electricity and infrastructure requirements.
Mike Kehoe, Governor of Missouri, said, “Google’s historic investment in Montgomery County is a testament to Missouri’s growing reputation as a premier destination for innovation and next-generation technology.”
Ruth Porat, President and CIO of Alphabet and Google, said, “We look forward to expanding Google’s investments in Missouri and helping Missourians benefit from the next wave of American innovation, to deliver the upside of technology, we are investing in workforce development and energy affordability, both directly and through our partnerships with local organizations.”
Martin J. Lyons Jr., Chairman, President, and CEO of Ameren Corporation, said, “Google’s major investment in Montgomery County reflects what’s possible through strong partnerships with local and state officials to support significant economic growth, this is the largest economic development project in Ameren Missouri’s service territory.”
The Energy Impact Fund’s first recipient will be North East Community Action Corporation, which will fund home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades in Montgomery County and surrounding areas.
Google also announced a US$ 20 million Energy Impact Fund aimed at reducing monthly energy bills for households in Montgomery, Clay, Platte, and surrounding counties near planned data center sites in Kansas City and New Florence.
