Winda Energy Oy, a renewable energy project developer, plans to build a 100 MW data center in Janakkala, Finland. The project is planned for the Rastikangas industrial zone and is being developed with Gi21 Capital, a European investment company, that invests in and operates data center projects.
According to a press release, the project aims to expand Winda Energy Oy’s business from renewable energy production into energy-intensive infrastructure and will receive an estimated €500 million (US$ 584 million) investment.
Tuomas Hooli, CEO, Winda Energy said, “Finland and Winda Energy have already invested heavily in green electricity production, and it is great to see how this opens up new business opportunities on the consumption side.”
Janakkala is also expected to benefit financially through higher municipal, property and corporate tax income while the municipality will receive revenue from the sale of the land.
The project site covers 22 hectares in Rastikangas and construction is scheduled to start in 2027 with the data center expected to be fully operational in 2028.
