OVHcloud, a French cloud and data center provider, has expanded its European infrastructure with the launch of a new three-Availability Zone (3-AZ) cloud region in Berlin, strengthening its long-standing presence in Germany, and reinforcing its push for European digital sovereignty. The announcement was made during the European Digital Sovereignty Summit and marks the company’s third 3-AZ deployment in Europe after Paris and Milan.
In a press release OVHcloud said that the expansion comes as European public institutions and regulated industries increasingly seek cloud solutions that ensure autonomy, data protection, and high resilience. OVHcloud positions the new Berlin region in response to the rising demands in sensitive sectors such as finance, energy, defence, and public administration.
OVHcloud, Founder and CEO, Octave Klaba said, “Our new 3-AZ region in Berlin will strengthen the security and resilience of European digital infrastructures. European digital sovereignty is not built with isolated champions, but with systemic players capable of operating on an international scale.”
The 3-AZ model is designed for mission-critical applications that require continuous uptime and robust disaster-recovery capabilities. The cloud region intends to offer low latency, heightened security, and sustained service availability during outages. Each region includes three geographically separated datacenters with independent power supplies and network connections.
The Berlin deployment forms part of OVHcloud’s broader strategy to scale high-redundant cloud regions across Europe, with additional 3-AZ sites planned in other major cities in the coming years to support Europe’s digital infrastructure at scale.
Since 2005 OVHcloud has operated two datacenters located in Hesse and Frankfurt, Germany respectively. The expanded regional presence aims to bolster its role as a trusted provider for German public and private organizations, including Commerz Real, ITSC, the Federal Employment Agency, and the Federal Police.
