Digital Realty has yesterday opened its newest AMS11 data center in Amsterdam that adds 27 Megawatts (MW) of IT capacity and increases its total capacity in the country to 159 MW, according to the firm’s  press release

The facility is the company’s 12th in the Netherlands and spans across 12,000 square meters of space offering over 280 service providers direct access to the Neutral Internet Exchange (NL-IX). These connections provide more options for network routing and low-latency performance, which is increasingly important for AI and data-heavy applications.

Construction of AMS11 is split into four phases. The first two phases are fully operational with the remaining stages scheduled for completion in 2026.

With AMS11, we’re continuing to add critical capacity across EMEA to meet growing customer demand for digital infrastructure that supports AI and digital transformation,” said Paula Cogan, Managing Director, EMEA, Digital Realty.

AMS11 is matched with 100 per cent renewable energy including both air-based cooling and direct liquid cooling for data centers adapted to the power and heat requirements of modern chips.

The launch comes amid ongoing scrutiny on the environmental impact of large data centers in the Netherlands. Rising energy use and strain on local power grids have become central policy issues.
