Zurich Green campus developments underway

Construction work is underway on two data centers at Green’s campus in Zurich which will be utilised to heat nearby homes, it has been announced.

Development on data centers N and O has begun on the Metro-Campus Zurich in Dielsdorf, where the two new sites will provide 35 mW in combined capacity, as well as space for an estimated 4000 racks spanning 11600 sqm. Owned by InfraVia Capital Partners, Green recently completed a $514 million refinancing, reportedly using the funds to promote the next growth phase for the company.

The Zurich campus aims to feature three buildings over 46000 sqm of land upon its completion. Work began on the first of the three, otherwise known as ‘M’, in early 2021, starting operation in January 2023. Sustainability has been a key focus during the development. It has been reported that waste heat from the data centers will be utilized by Zurich-based energy provider Energie 360°.

As well as this, work has begun on a heating center and a district heating network in the region; the latter opening in 2024 with the goal to supply up to 3500 Dielsdorf households. The company also has three different sites. One of these, Zurich West, will expand to three facilities across 10,000 sqm. On the other hand, underground site Zurich City was acquired in 2016 on 3200 sqm of land. While Zurich North offers a two-story facility over 1,000 sqm.
