Yondr Group Partners with Marubeni for Data Center Development in Japan

Yondr Group, a global provider of hyperscale data centers, has formed a strategic partnership with Marubeni Corporation, a major conglomerate in Japan. This collaboration aims to establish a foothold in the Tokyo market and expand Yondr’s presence in Asia, leveraging Marubeni’s diverse business interests for future developments in data centers and renewable energy projects.

This strategic collaboration is set to kick off with the establishment of an initial site in West Tokyo, with plans for additional sites to follow shortly. This move marks Yondr’s entry into the vibrant Tokyo market, which ranks as the second largest globally, trailing only Northern Virginia in the US, where Yondr has already established its presence with ongoing developments.

The partnership with Marubeni presents a valuable opportunity for Yondr to introduce its dependable hyperscale data center model to the Japanese market, which is anticipated to see demand exceeding 3 gigawatts by 2029.

This initiative aligns with Yondr’s broader expansion strategy in Asia, which includes ongoing projects in places like Johor, Malaysia, where the company is constructing the largest hyperscale data center campus in Southeast Asia.

Paul Dillon, Yondr’s Chief Development Officer, emphasized the significance of Marubeni’s extensive global business interests, particularly in power generation. He highlighted the potential for this partnership to serve as a conduit for data center development and renewable energy projects across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions.
