The Office of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, a western Indian state, has announced that the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Web Werks for building a data center. The MoU worth Rs 10,000 crores (US$ 120 Million approx.) was signed during the World Economic Forum (WEF) that was held in Davos, Switzerland last week.
The announcement was made on the Chief Minister’s official account on X (formerly Twitter). It said, “Web Werks, one of India’s most trusted data center providers, today signed an MoU worth Rs 10,000 crore to invest in Maharashtra in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The agreement will see Web Werks invest in a mega IT/ITES data center (sic) over the next 5 years, which will provide direct employment to 150,000 people.”
No other details of the project including its location, capacity or IT load have been released so far. At present, Web Werks has facilities in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra. This is Web Werks’ second MoU signed during the WEF at Davos. It had also signed a US$ 2.4 Billion MoU with the state of Karnataka to build a data center park in Bengaluru.
