Viettel Group, a Vietnamese state-owned multinational telecommunications, technology and manufacturing conglomerate, has announced the opening of its largest data center in Vietnam. This facility spread over 21,000 square meters is located in Hoa Lac in the Hanoi province, where the company already has two existing data centers.
“Viettel will constantly invest in DCs. According to our roadmap, by 2025, Viettel will invest and expand its scale to 17,000 racks. By 2030, Viettel will increase its scale to 34,000 racks,” said Mr. Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group, sharing the company’s plans for future expansion and growth. “Viettel is ready to work with businesses to universalize cloud computing in Vietnam, realizing the national aspiration that every person, every household, every organization and business will have access to a domestic cloud space,” he added.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Viettel’s new facility, Vietnam’s Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, said, “Viettel has included in its development plan at least 3 data centers in the next 2 years with a total capacity of 240MW, realizing its pioneering mission as a leading national digital infrastructure enterprise.”
Power, Cooling and Sustainability Initiatives at the new facility
The new facility has a maximum capacity of up to 30 MW, and Viettel says that it is designed to meet requirements of high-performance computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) related data processing.
“The Data Center is designed with multiple modules with different power capacities such as 2.5MW, 4MW, 5MW, which can be flexibly deployed according to customer needs,” said Nguyen Dinh Tuan, Technical Department Manager, Viettel IDC. Shedding light on technological innovations at the heart of the facility, he said, “The cooling system uses water – cooled chiller, combined with both room-based and in-row cooling solutions, thereby effectively dissipating heat for systems that require large amounts of electricity such as AI.”
Viettel has also walked the talk on sustainability with this new data center where it has used a variety of technological innovations to save energy and be environmentally friendly. This facility is committed to ensuring optimal energy efficiency (PuE below 1.5), and was certified by HSBC as the first data center to meet the conditions for Green Credit incentives.
“We use UPS Modular with high efficiency, Water-cooled Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller, Cool aisle containment and smart BMS to adaptive control all cooling system to optimize the power consumption,” says Nguyen.

Commitment to maintaining high standards
In February 2024, the data center was assessed and certified ANSI/TIA-942-B:2017 Rated-3 Constructed Facilities, with the highest level 4 (Rated-4) in the Telecommunications category. This is the first domestic data center to have been Rated 4 for Telecommunications in Vietnam.
It also complies with high cybersecurity standards. “Our data centers follow the ISO 27001:2015 and PCI-DSS, and have 3rd audit yearly to maintain effectiveness of the certificate. We use both firewall equipment, the SIEM solution, the SOC team with 24/7,” says Nguyen, showcasing the company’s continued commitment to cybersecurity and data protection.
