Groundbreaking ceremony of Viettel's latest data center

Viettel Group officially broke ground on its 15th and largest data centre and R&D Complex on April 23, with a total capacity of up to 140MW and approximately 10,000 racks on a land area of 4 ha. The data centre will be developed to Uptime Tier III standards and will feature an average power density of 10 kilowatt per rack, 2.5 times the national average with some racks reaching up to 60 kW to meet the demands of high-performance computing and AI applications.

To support such power density, the centre will integrate its proprietary advanced cooling systems and AI-powered management technologies. It aims to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio of below 1.4, indicating high energy efficiency.

Phase 1 is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2026, with full completion scheduled within five years, said the company in a press release published on its website.

Located in Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City, the project is the first in Vietnam to reach hyperscale capacity. Once operational, the centre is expected to accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, 5G, IoT, blockchain, and cloud computing.

In April 2024, Viettel had launched what was then the largest data center in Vietnam as well as the first data center in the country to use renewable energy for 30% of its electricity consumption. The 30MW AI-ready data center , Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center is fitted with 60,000 servers, over 2,400 racks, spread over 21,000m² of floor space.

Viettel plans to build 24 data centers by 2030, with 560MW in total capacity. The company currently operates 14 facilities spread across Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Duong. It is building 11 more that will handle 40% of national demand.

On February 25, Vietnam officially launched its National Data Centre under the Ministry of Public Security. To be fully operational by August 19, the center will support integrated and synchronized datasets across government agencies, real-time analytics, AI-ready compute environments, blockchain platforms and decentralized identity, and high-performance computing for innovation and security. It will also house a National Data Innovation and Exploitation Centre, tasked with converting raw data into actionable insights, commercial applications, and digital services.
