Vietnam’s US$2 billion AI data center to start construction in April

Vietnam’s first AI data center, a US$ 2 billion project is expected to commence construction on 30th April, according to Dang Thanh Tam, Chairman of Beijing Urban Development Corporation, a co-developer of the 200MW data center complex. Dang was speaking yesterday after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between co-developer, Accelerated Infrastructure Capital (AIC) and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology.

Under the MOU, the parties will coordinate the implementation of the project, SGI-HCM Campus, spanning 10 hectares in Tan Phu Trung industrial park in Ho Chi Minh City. The first phase with capacity up to 50 MW is expected to come online by end 2027 with power infrastructure in place.

In January, w.media reported on the setting up of a task force by Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to expedite regulatory approvals and compliance fulfilment for the project. Last November, w.media reported that Kinh Bac, AIC, and VietinBank had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop the project.
