Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Phan Tam, has highlighted significant opportunities for US cloud firms to establish regional data centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang.
Speaking at a meeting with the US Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), led by President and CEO Jason Oxman, Phan Tam emphasized the substantial investment potential in Vietnam’s cloud computing infrastructure.
Phan Tam noted the enhanced trade and investment exchanges between Vietnam and the US following their upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He underscored Vietnam’s commitment to fostering mutually beneficial cooperation with global technology leaders, including those from the US.
The Deputy Minister invited ITI member companies to explore investment opportunities in Vietnam’s open cloud infrastructure market, especially in HCMC and Danang. He also discussed Vietnamese government policies on telecommunications and IT equipment, 6G standardization research, and frequency planning for the upcoming 6G network.
Jason Oxman expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s openness and the opportunity to discuss future IT investments in Vietnam. He acknowledged the Ministry’s role in creating a conducive legal framework and noted the growing interest of ITI member companies in Vietnam amid shifting global supply chains.
The ITI Council showed interest in collaborating on testing and certification, electronic device labeling, and spectrum policy. Oxman suggested aligning Vietnam’s 5G/6G standards with global benchmarks to position the country as a hub for equipment manufacturers.
Deputy Minister Phan Tam invited ITI members to Vietnam International Digital Week 2024 and proposed collaboration on 6G frequency planning. “The Ministry of Information and Communications will fully support ITI Council members in their business endeavors in Vietnam,” he affirmed.
This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening the Vietnam-US partnership in the IT sector, positioning Vietnam as a key hub for cloud computing and telecommunications infrastructure in Southeast Asia.
