Uttar Pradesh, a northern Indian state, will soon get its very own green data center. The 30 MW Tier III facility will be built at an investment of Rs 1000 crores (~US$ 117 million) in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad. The foundation stone for the project was laid by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh on Thursday.
The data center will be developed by Central Electronics Limited (CEL), a company dubbed “mini Ratna” or mini gem by CM Adityanath. India has given Nav Ratna (nine gems) status to certain state run enterprises that produce goods and services of national importance.
“CEL has become a profit-making ‘Mini Ratna’ company and is handing over dividends to the government. This change is an inspiration for an Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) India,” said the Chief Minister, adding, “This datacenter enlightens a way to an India that successfully fits into the vision of PM Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat (developed India).”
CEL also exchanged signed copies of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Multi Infra, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company for a 200 MW solar module project. According to the Chief Minister, UP was on track to produce as much as 20,000 MW of renewable energy by the end of 2027.
