Thai soccer fans were dismayed when the livestream of the Liverpool-Manchester United pre-season livestream in Bangkok was disrupted by an outage on AIS Play, a streaming platform owned by telecom operator Advanced Info Service (AIS).

As AIS Play was the only platform Thai viewers could use to watch the live match broadcast, several fans took to social media to express their annoyance over the disruption. In response, AIS posted an apology message online, saying that its platform had crashed as it could not support the overwhelming number of users tuned in to the livestream.

AIS apologised for the disruption and announced an additional live-streaming channel which viewers could use to view the match. In addition, AIS also offered users affected by the disruption temporary free services as compensation, which varied based on the subscriber’s service package. The company’s offer included one free day of content services, 10 GB of free Internet-based data transmission for one day, or 100 minutes of free voice calls.

AIS affirmed that the company would take corrective measures to avoid a repeat of the outage, and apologised for the inconvenience caused to its customers.
