Tencent Cloud launches Osaka Cloud Region and third data center in Japan

Tencent Cloud, the cloud business of global technology company Tencent, has announced the launch of its Osaka Cloud Region in Japan. It will also set up a data center in the Kansai region of Osaka, its third such facility in Japan after two in Tokyo, bringing the company’s global tally to 56 data centers across 21 geographical regions.

The announcement of the new availability zone in Osaka was made at Tencent Cloud Day 2025 in Tokyo. In a press release the company said, “Over the past five years, Tencent Cloud has achieved high double-digit growth rates in Japan. With its advanced AI and cloud capabilities, Tencent Cloud will continue supporting Japanese businesses in integrating innovative technologies into various aspects of society, contributing to a human-centered and sustainable future.”

Dowson Tong, Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent and CEO of Cloud and Smart Industries Group (CSIG), said, “Tencent Cloud seeks to continue serving as a technology enabler for Japanese companies, helping them achieve their business goals and enhance their competitiveness through cutting-edge cloud, AI, and media solutions. With our expanding global infrastructure network, we are excited to deepen our support for clients and partners to grow and operate globally.”

Hanson Liu, Head of Tencent Cloud Japan, said, “We will continue expanding our capabilities in Japan, and deepen collaborations with our business partners as they make the most of our transformative cloud, AI, media, and fintech solutions.”

The company also revealed that it would open a new office in Osaka, which is in line with the company’s mission to create greater employment opportunities and to develop local talent in the region.

Mordor Intelligence estimates the Japan Data Center Market size at 2.32 GW in 2025, and expects it to reach 3.66 GW by 2030, growing at a Compounded Average Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9.51 percent. Further, the market is expected to generate colocation revenue of US$ 2,511.5 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 4,981.5 million by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 14.68 percent during the forecast period (2025-2030).

According to Horizon Grand View Research, the cloud computing market in Japan is expected to reach a projected revenue of US$ 91,016.4 million at a CAGR of 22.1 percent from 2025 to 2030.
