Event Summary
Just as data centers transformed the power of computing, so is sustainability transforming the power of data centers. Join industry experts from Schneider Electric as we examine both the benefits and barriers to adopting eco-friendly technology here in South East Asia. Sustainable design will impact professionals in all sectors of the industry—from colocation providers to hyperscalers to end users—so register today and join the conversation!
Each year, Data centers pump out a staggering 200 million metric tons of carbon emissions globally—a figure that puts them on track to overtake the carbon footprint produced by the entire aviation industry in coming years. And though technological achievements in the industry have led to an unprecedented advancement in global connectivity and informatics, efficiency has long been the industry’s glaring blind spot. In fact, some data centers waste up to 90% of the electricity they pull from the grid.
Data Centers in Southeast Asia are no exception; 7% of all electricity consumed in Singapore comes from data centers, while neighboring Malaysia recently racked up a data center energy bill of $171 million USD.
The financial and environmental impact of these trends are only going to worsen unless we act now.
Luckily, some key players are already taking initiative. Governments around the world are implementing carbon neutrality regulations and green data center standards, and more and more end-users are introducing environmentally-friendly and zero carbon targets into their corporate social responsibility strategies. The pressure on data center operators to adopt sustainable solutions is mounting on multiple fronts.
Data center providers recognize this: in a recent global survey of over 800 data center providers, most respondents saw efficiency and sustainability as strategic to their businesses going forward. That is why it is crucial for data center operators to work with energy management specialists to innovate and implement sustainable solutions when engineering their facilities.
But of course, the future of data centres requires eco-friendly solutions that also uphold end-user requirements. How can we eliminate inefficiencies and align with regulations without sacrificing a data center’s capabilities?
Join the Schneider Electric team for a power hour discussion of the latest insights, groundbreaking solutions and best practices for building a sustainable future in a more electric world.
