SUNeVision has issued a clarification regarding the incident that occurred at its MEGA Two data center on October 14. The company has emphasized that there was no explosion and that the data center facility remains undamaged.
Several local media outlets reported an explosion in the cooling system at SUNeVision’s MEGA Two data center in Fo Tan. W.Media contacted SUNeVision to obtain a clearer picture of the situation.
According to SUNeVision, the incident involved a spark that occurred while a contractor staff member was conducting routine maintenance on the control panel of a chiller fan located on the outdoor podium of MEGA Two. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit might have been the cause of the spark.
“The incident was promptly reported to the Police and emergency services by our on-site staff. The contractor staff was injured in the arm but stayed conscious the entire time. He was then transported to the hospital for a thorough examination. Subsequent assessments determined that the injury was minor, with an expected discharge today. Immediately following the incident, we thoroughly inspected MEGA Two to ensure the safety of all staff and other contractors. We also confirmed that the faulty panel did not affect data center operations,” SUNeVision said.
Local authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the spark and to ensure that all safety protocols are being followed at the data center.
As the investigation is ongoing, SUNeVision pledges to provide further updates as they become available.
