Malaysian vertically integrated construction firm Sunway Construction Group Berhad (SunCon) announced this week that it has received and accepted change orders for two projects. The change orders will increase the value of the projects by RM 664.4 million (US$ 160.7 million) to RM 865.6 million (US$ 209.3 million).

The company said in a Bursa Malaysia filing that it had accepted the change orders to a Project Services Request it had previously taken onboard on April 21, 2026. That order was for the construction and completion of substations for two data center projects in Johor. The work was ordered by an unnamed multinational technology corporation located in the US.

The firm notes that the total of RM 865.6 million the contract is now worth is inclusive of withholding taxes, sales and service tax, and other taxes applicable to this project. Should all go according to plan, one of the projects will be completed by Q4 2027 and the other set for Q2 2028.

Furthermore, SunCon reports that the project will have no effect on its share capital and the shares of “substantial shareholders” as no new shares will be issued. However, it expects the projects to have a positive impact on the firm’s earnings for the 2026 financial year, which ends on December 31.

To date, SunCon has secured new orders worth RM 4.2 billion so far in this financial year. The group’s total outstanding order book currently sits at RM 8.8 billion, surpassing the value of its order book for the entirety of the 2025 financial year. SunCon has capitalized on, and continues to capitalize on the data center boom. Last year the firm brought in RM 2.9 billion in high-growth data center projects and this latest announcement highlights that the sector is still a major focus for the company.
