ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (India) Pvt Ltd, known as STT GDC India, the Indian subsidiary of Singapore’s STT GDC, is gearing up to make a substantial investment of one billion dollars within the next 3-4 years for the expansion of its data centers across India. This plan was revealed by the company’s CEO, Sumit Mukhija, in a recent media interaction.
Currently, the company boasts an impressive 300 MW of operational data center capacity, with an additional 100 MW under construction. The company is planning to double this capacity every four years in the foreseeable future. While the primary focus of expansion will target major metropolitan areas, STT GDC India also has plans to extend its presence into Tier-2 cities.
STT GDC India has decided to go into tier-2 cities both for cost-cutting as well as to be closer to customers there. The company will build 2-3 this year and 7-8 in the next 3 years.
The Indian market today is about 700 MW, and it is expected to grow beyond 1.5 GW in the next 3-4 years. There are around 35 companies in India offering data centres.
