STT GDC Forges Partnerships with Philippines’ Top Universities to Cultivate Next-Gen Data Center Workforce

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines has embarked on an initiative to bolster the country’s data center workforce by forging strategic partnerships with prominent universities like De La Salle University, the University of Santo Tomas, and the National University. This collaboration aims to cultivate a new generation of skilled professionals for the data sector.

Carlo Malana, the President and CEO of STT GDC Philippines, expressed that the partnership blends the academic excellence of these university partners with the practical insights from STT GDC Philippines. This fusion promises an enhanced and enriching learning experience for students, paving the way for the nation’s digital revolution.

The alliance between the data center industry and academia seeks to provide students with real-world exposure and create clear career pathways within the sector. The initiative also emphasizes elevating awareness of the data center industry by integrating industry-relevant content into engineering curricula and facilitating practical internship programs for hands-on experience.

Furthermore, the partners have planned to collaborate on joint projects addressing critical industry challenges, such as energy efficiency, cooling technologies, and security systems.

As the program progresses, STT GDC Philippines aims to expand its reach by inviting more universities and training institutions to partake in this transformative endeavor. The ultimate goal is to foster a skilled and empowered workforce to drive the data center industry forward and support the nation’s growth in the digital landscape.

The Philippines is seen as a viable market for data centers because of its digitization initiatives and growing use of e-commerce. Hence, data center developers are expanding their presence in the country and are actively seeking appropriate locations, be it lands or buildings, to construct their data centers.

STT GDC Philippines is embarking on a substantial expansion plan in the country by the third quarter of this year. They are set to boost their capacity by 5.2MW across their three existing data centers in Makati, Cavite, and Quezon City.
