South Korea is positioning itself as a key player in the global AI boom by focusing on the development and export of data center cooling equipment. Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun highlighted the growing demand for such infrastructure, driven by the increasing popularity of AI platforms like ChatGPT.
Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun highlighted this strategy during a visit to LG Electronics’ chiller production line, emphasizing the growing demand for such infrastructure to support the rapid expansion of AI technologies.
As generative AI platforms continue to gain popularity, data centers worldwide are facing increasing energy consumption. To address this challenge, efficient cooling solutions are essential. Chillers, which circulate water to regulate temperatures, have become critical components of data center infrastructure.
Recognizing this opportunity, the South Korean government plans to invest 350 billion won in trade insurance to support the export of cooling equipment. Additionally, the ministry will assist companies in identifying new buyers and providing other necessary support.
With exports of cooling equipment projected to reach $2.6 billion in 2024, up from $2.4 billion in 2023, South Korea aims to solidify its position as a leading supplier of this essential technology.
