Data centre solutions provider SoftIron has affirmed its commitment to sustainability by joining the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA). SDIA is a non-profit network which aims to help the digital sector become more sustainable by working towards a zero-emission goal.

The SDIA community comprises over 100 organisations across the digital ecosystem, from energy supply and data centres to fibre-optic networks and software providers. Collectively, firms under this alliance aim to implement a Roadmap to Sustainable Digital Infrastructure by 2030.

SDIA’s Roadmap to Sustainable Digital Infrastructure is based on a set of metrics: energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, electronic waste, pollutants, and socioeconomic costs of digital power.

Through engaging more businesses across the digital economy, SDIA facilitates and encourages collaboration across the entire value chain for a more holistic, comprehensive approach to sustainable transformation and development.

Making Climate-Neutrality a Possibility

Phil Straw, Co-founder and CEO of SoftIron, affirmed that “SoftIron was founded recognising that the status quo for data centre hardware was unsustainable and fundamentally broken for the needs of the future, impacting everything from energy draw to supply chain obscurity and dependencies, and virtually every manner of waste. [The company] was created to help lead the industry in the right direction, starting at the core of the problem and working outward.”

“To that end, SoftIron has completely reinvented and modernised how data infrastructure is designed, manufactured and delivered in virtually every regard. Taking the approach that ‘hardware matters,’ SoftIron has developed highly integrated data infrastructure solutions that optimise every aspect of the hardware and software architecture, delivering significant carbon footprint reductions for customers using our solutions.”

Straw added that “we are proud to share the vision of the SDIA and look forward to helping lead the industry toward better collaboration and more sustainable solutions for a greener future.”

In addition, SDIA also expressed its excitement about and approval for SoftIron joining the alliance.
Executive Chairman at SDIA, Daan Terpstra, said that ““With their fresh approach to hardware design and manufacturing for data infrastructure, we are excited about the potential of bringing in SoftIron’s unique expertise and experience to our organisation,” said Daan Terpstra, Executive Chairman, SDIA. “As a nascent company looking to bring disruption to the market with innovative hardware solutions that reduce energy consumption, heat, and space needed, SoftIron brings a unique perspective to our working groups.”

“Together we will collaborate to develop new concepts and ideas that set new industry standards and make climate-neutral data centres and digital infrastructure a reality.”

“Sustainable Transformation” is a key sub-category under the awards category “Outstanding Data Center Projects” for this year’s W.Media Asia-Pacific Cloud & Datacenter Awards. Thinking of nominating or sponsoring? Visit our Awards Page for more information. Nominations are open until 31st July.
