Smart and Google Cloud Collaborate to Enhance Digital Services in the Philippines

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), a subsidiary of PLDT specializing in wireless communications and digital services, has joined forces with Google Cloud to enhance digital services for the Filipinos.

Through this collaboration, Smart has become one of the pioneering communication service providers in the Asia Pacific region to integrate Google Cloud’s advanced AI-powered solution.

This partnership also involves Searce, a leading global provider of cloud computing solutions and technology services, focusing on cloud, AI, and analytics. Searce is offering technical implementation support as part of this collaboration.

Additionally, Smart is leveraging Google Cloud’s Telecom Subscriber Insights, a tool that processes data from various sources, providing contextual information on subscribers’ service consumption tendencies. It offers personalized recommendations to subscribers’ devices for activation. Smart aims to gain deeper insights into how subscribers utilize mobile data and identify gaps in rural coverage through this solution.

In the rapidly growing digital economy of the Philippines, expected to expand by 20% annually until 2025, mobile connectivity plays a pivotal role in Filipinos’ access to essential services such as food, transportation, and daily item purchases.

By securely analyzing customer data hosted on Google Cloud using Telecom Subscriber Insights, Smart intends to understand how Filipinos engage with digital services and pinpoint the challenges they encounter in their everyday usage.

This comprehensive understanding will inform the development of services tailored to empower Filipinos, enabling them to better comprehend, manage, and optimize their mobile data usage.

Just recently, ePLDT, PLDT’s subsidiary as well, has introduced the ePLDT Pilipinas Cloud (ePPC), marking the Philippines’ inaugural sovereign cloud. This technology is designated to house sensitive government data and applications, aligning with the government’s cloud-first strategy.

Moreover, the Philippines‘ ICT Department has also kept pushing for cloud technology to be able to deliver quality services to Filipinos and to achieve better governance.
