Singtel’s subsidiaries in the data center sector have successfully secured a $535 million green loan for a five-year term from DBS, OCBC, UOB, and Standard Chartered. The appointed banks will also serve as coordinators for this green loan.
This milestone marks Singtel’s inaugural foray into green financing. The funds raised will be directed towards refinancing existing debts and supporting the operational needs of two key data centers, namely DC West and DC Kim Chuan, boasting a collective capacity of 62 megawatts.
As a prerequisite for the green loan, both data centers are mandated to attain at least a Green Mark GoldPlus certification from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). It is noteworthy that both facilities have already achieved the highest green building certification, Green Mark Platinum, as bestowed by the BCA.
Arthur Lang, Singtel’s Group Chief Financial Officer, expressed the company’s commitment to ongoing advancements in technology. This includes the exploration of innovations such as liquid cooling and artificial intelligence to enhance operational efficiency across all its data centers.
These initiatives extend to the forthcoming DC Tuas, a green data center with a capacity of 58 megawatts, for which Singtel recently initiated groundbreaking activities.
