Sify to invest US$ 5 billion to expand data hubs, add AI ops and GPUs

Sify Technologies Limited, one of India’s most prominent Digital ICT solutions providers, has announced that it plans to invest a whopping US$ 5 billion into expanding its data hubs, and integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) operations with cutting-edge GPUs.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos. According to Economic Times, Sify’s plans include building smaller AI inferencing facilities in 20 Tier II cities. Sify has been steadily working towards upping its AI game, and developing relevant infrastructure.

In September 2024, Sify became an NVIDIA colocation partner with the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program, certified for liquid cooling. The certification, the first such for an Indian data center provider, represents Sify’s data center deployment solution specifications to support 130 KW/rack capacity.

It has also been attracting huge investments. In September 2023, Kotak Data Center Fund (KDCF) has announced an investment worth Rs 600 crores into Sify Infinity Services Ltd (SISL), which is the data center business of Sify Technologies. This was part of KotakAlt’s total equity commitment of Rs 1,600 crores in SISL. The funds will be used to expand SISL’s data center capacity across India, and also as an investment in renewable energy.

Sify, that provided India’s first Indian private ISP in 1998, went on to become a Fortune 500 company. It has been listed on NASDAQ since 1999, only the second such Indian company. Today, Sify’s operations are in the digital transformation space, and its global service capabilities span data center, cloud, networks, security and digital services. Sify has a total of 11 data centers located in NOIDA, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Chennai. They serve a wide variety of customers hailing from sectors as diverse as banking, healthcare, social media, FMCG and OTT.
