Sify Infinit Spaces Ltd, a subsidiary of the wider Integrated Communication Technologies (ICT) major Sify Technologies, has announced the launch of its AI-Hub data center in Lucknow. The facility, located within the HCL IT City campus on Sultanpur Road, will be developed in four phases, with the first phase set to become operational by June 2025.
According to the company, the data centre is designed to cater to enterprise data processing needs, and incorporates edge caching technology. In a LinkedIn post, the company said, “The data center, in the vicinity of the major MNCs operating out of the NCR and Lucknow belt will help reduce the latency time and will be a key operational asset for Enterprises.”
Local media reports quoted Raju Vegesna, Chairman, Sify Technologies, as saying, “This facility is in line with our investment goals and also reflects the state government’s ambition of making Uttar Pradesh the data centre hub of North India. Sify is committed to contributing to this vision.”
Manoj Kumar Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary, was present at the ground breaking ceremony, and said, “The government is building an AI City in Lucknow, and the stable investment environment aligns with the vision of realising Uttar Pradesh’s AI potential. Sify’s expansion into Lucknow through this AI Hub Edge Data Center is a key milestone in achieving this vision.”
Uttar Pradesh, a northern Indian state is steadily attracting data center owners and operators to set a base. Lucknow’s proximity to Delhi and the wider National Capital Region (NCR), is making it an attractive destination for setting up technology parks. Already, Yotta Data Services, Web Werks, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres and others have announced plans to set up facilities in the state.
Sify, that provided India’s first Indian private ISP in 1998, went on to become a Fortune 500 company. It has been listed on NASDAQ since 1999, only the second such Indian company. Today, Sify’s operations are in the digital transformation space, and its global service capabilities span data center, cloud, networks, security and digital services. Sify has a total of 11 data centers located in NOIDA, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Chennai. They serve a wide variety of customers hailing from sectors as diverse as banking, healthcare, social media, FMCG and OTT.
