There have been no reported casualties or property damage following a 4.1-magnitude quake that occurred at 6.13am this morning in Segamat, Johor, according to Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi in his Facebook. The confirmation came from Segamat district officer Mohd Ezzuddin Sanusi, he said.

Segamat, the epicentre of the quake, is located 130 kilometres north of Sedenak, Kulai, home to many international data centers.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a statement confirming the minor quake which was also felt in many parts of Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and southern Pahang.

Since 2007, the Meteorology Department (MMD) has recorded several small local earthquakes in Peninsular Malaysia of mostly less than 4 Mw in magnitude, according to an academic paper in 2021. They occurred in Bukit Tinggi in Pahang, Kuala Pilah in Negeri Sembilan and Tasik Temenggor in Perak. “Except for creating some minor tremors and shaking of high-rise buildings, these earthquakes have not resulted in any significant damage,” it said.
