Ramboll acquires Ed Ansett’s i3 Solutions Group

Ramboll, a global architecture, engineering and consultancy company, has announced the acquisition of data center consulting company i3 Solutions Group. The move not only strengthens Ramboll’s position as a full-service provider, but also expands its presence in North America, Europe and Asia.

i3 Solutions Group has strong competencies in strategy, planning, design and commissioning of data centers and advises clients in Europe and Asia in storing and securing their business-critical, digital environments. With the acquisition of i3 Solutions, a company based in the UK and Singapore, Ramboll now has hundreds of dedicated data center design experts globally.

“With i3 Solutions, we get a company on board with deep, technical domain knowledge within data centers, which will strengthen our consultancy within integrated, innovative data center solutions and strengthen Ramboll’s position at the top of the international league of data center consulting companies,” said Peter Heymann Andersen, Group Chief Operating Officer of Ramboll.

For Ed Ansett, Founder and Chairman of i3 Solutions Group, joining forces also offers great opportunities.

“Becoming part of Ramboll is a fantastic opportunity to expand the portfolio of consulting engineering services to our existing, global client base, while at the same time bringing our specialist technical expertise into Ramboll’s current and future clients across 35 countries around the world,” said Ansett.

Commitment to Sustainability

With data centers and data transmission networks each accounting for 1-1.5 percent of global electricity use, and 2 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, improving the sustainability performance of the sector is more important than ever. It is this commitment to sustainability that brought the two organisations together.

“For more than two decades, Ramboll has provided expert advice in the fields of environment, water, energy and construction to data centers and helped our clients to design, build and operate water and energy efficient solutions worldwide. At Ramboll we operate with the mindset that 100 percent renewably powered, zero waste data centers are achievable,” explained Andersen.

Ansett also acknowledged this saying, “Ramboll has a strong commitment to fostering a sustainable development of the data center sector. This commitment aligns with our own belief in the importance of minimising the environmental impact of data centers on society.”

Ed Ansett was also a keynote speaker at Singapore Cloud and Datacenter Convention 2024, where he delivered an in-depth analysis of the challenges and solutions surrounding data center outages. Drawing on his extensive experience, Ansett discussed recent incidents and shares strategies to enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure. You can listen to the entire keynote speech here:
