Director, Cybersecurity & Analytics | ASTRI
Samuel Ng is the Director of Cybersecurity & Analytics in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI). He is responsible for the strategic planning and leading the R&D directions of cyber-security and data analytics. He leads a team to conduct research and development projects in security assessment, network security, threat analysis and cyber defense technologies.
Prior to ASTRI, Samuel led a licensed Virtual Bank’s cybersecurity function. He is responsible for planning and implementing the overall cybersecurity strategy on all information systems, IT infrastructures, and networks to safeguard the Bank from cyber-attacks. He built & led the team to establish governance structure, network security policies, procedures, and run periodical cyber risk assessments for the bank to stay in compliance with Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) cybersecurity standards.
Back in Malaysia, Samuel served as Captain ranked army officer for Royal Malaysian Army & Ministry of Defense for more than 14 years in the telecommunication sector. He retired from the Army and ventured his career into Hong Kong and had since held various positions including red team & penetration tester, cyber incident responder and IT security auditor. He also holds multiple industry recognized certifications including CREST, Offensive Security and ISC(2). Samuel has a master’s degree in Information Assurance from the National Technology University of Malaysia and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the National Defense University of Malaysia.
