Nelson Tan
Director of InfoComm Infrastructure | Nanyang Technological University
Nelson Tan is the Director of InfoComm Infrastructure at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He had headed various functions over the span of his career, such as Infrastructure, End User Technology, Application Offshore Development, Service Management, Security, and driving application adoption of cloud technologies towards IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with First Class Honours in Bachelor of Science (Computer and Information Sciences), and Master of Business Administration.
At NTU, Nelson is responsible for university wide IT infrastructure, High-Performance Computing facilities and the management of IT teams responsible for Line of Business applications development and support.
Prior to joining NTU, Nelson headed the Core Infrastructure and Operations team in GIC. Nelson was responsible for driving the cloud strategy, providing thought and technical leadership in Cloud to both infrastructure as well as application teams in the development of cloud ready and cloud native systems, and engaging business owners on the cost-benefit of Cloud adoption.
In PSA, Nelson was heading various functions, such as Security, Project and Service Management, Application Offshore Development, Systems, Network, Database, where he was responsible for technology modernization to support massive automated terminal operations, and new port terminals as part of business capacity growth. With the backdrop of tighter cybersecurity protection of Singapore’s Critical Infrastructure, Nelson was also responsible for the IT Security of the firm, where he formalized and championed a 2-year Security Master Plan that significantly improved the cybersecurity detection, prevention and recovery capabilities.
