Princeton Digital Group (PDG) today announced that it has entered into a renewable energy contract with PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk (CL). This strategic partnership aims to secure power derived from biomass sources, which will be utilized for PDG’s expansive 30 MW data center campus located in Cibitung.
This multi-year agreement will facilitate a substantial shift towards digital sustainability through the integration of renewable energy. Initially, PDG plans to fuel up to 20% of its Cibitung data center campus using this renewable energy source.
Commencing in August 2023, PDG’s Greater Jakarta campus will start harnessing energy generated from biomass at CL’s mixed fuel plant. This marks a pivotal development, as earlier this year, PDG accomplished another milestone by being the pioneer data center operator to procure biomass I-RECs from CL.
Stephanus Tumbelaka, the Managing Director at PDG Indonesia, emphasized the paramount role of renewable energy in the pursuit of decarbonization. The company is actively taking substantive measures not only to honor its sustainability commitments but also to contribute to Indonesia’s ambitions for transitioning to clean energy.
Indonesia aims to increase renewable energy production to contribute around 48% of the total electricity by 2030 in the government’s drive for sustainability. Indonesia’s government is spearheading digital transformation in the country, focusing on sectors such as government digitization, digital health, digital education, and industrial digitization.
The data center industry in Indonesia has been experiencing significant growth in recent years due to the country’s expanding digital economy. Although the industry is somehow facing challenges in transitioning to renewable energy, operators are still finding ways to push green operations.
Recently, DCI Indonesia, in partnership with Salim Group, unveiled their second data center, H2-02, at the H2 Data Center Campus in Karawang which incorporated solar power facilities, making it the first solar-powered data center in Indonesia.
