The Republic of the Philippines has sent out an invitation for companies to submit bids for providing one year of data centre colocation services. This service is intended for offsite disaster recovery, acting as a backup site located away from the main data centre.

The bid posted by the Public-Private Partnership Centre (PPP Centre) states that the colocation site should be outside but within 100km radius of Quezon City, the most populous city in the Philippines.

Approved budget set for the contract is set at Php2.35 million and the bid clearly states that any submissions received with prices higher than the approved budget would be rejected upon bid opening. Interested parties should submit their bids by October 14, 2 PM (PHT). Bid opening will then commence on the same day at 2:30 PM at PPC Centre in Quezon. The opening will be livestreamed.

As part of the technical requirements, the bid invitation states that the contractor is required to provide rack space with dimensions of 600/800mm in width, 1200mm in depth, and a height of 42/45/47 rack units, to accommodate half-rack servers and network devices. Additionally, the contractor should also ensure continuous 24/7 power supply for five devices, with a total power consumption of 3000W.

These colocation efforts come at a time when the Philippine government is struggling to establish its own data centre. W.Media reported last month that the Philippine government faced challenges in establishing its own data centres, despite the increased demand for computing power. As of date, the government has yet to complete a single data centre.
