Nxtra by Airtel to launch 3 New Data Centres

Nxtra by Airtel has launched its 38 MW hyperscale data centre in Chennai and will soon begin construction of its Mumbai campus. The Mumbai campus will have a 90 MW hyperscale data centre, the company said.

“Last one month has been incredible for us at Nxtra by Airtel. We crossed 3 key milestones in our growth journey. We launched our 38 MW hyper-scale data centre at Chennai on 23rd Nov. We delivered our single biggest capacity till date at the Pune Campus including energisation of our first 220KV GIS substation on 10th Dec 3) We performed a Bhoomi Pujan (ground breaking ceremony) of our Mumbai 90 MW Campus to commence construction on 17th Dec,” said Rajesh Tapadia, CEO, Nxtra by Airtel in a LinkedIn post.

He further added “we are on track to deliver 3 new data centre capacities in the next 30 days. I am extremely proud of the efforts of my teams, our execution partners, and equipment suppliers and thankful for the support of various government agencies across states.”

Nxtra by Airtel, the data centre subsidiary of Bharti Airtel had launched its new hyperscale data centre park in Chennai in the month of November last year. The state-of-the-art facility was unveiled digitally by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru. M.K. Stalin.

This is Nxtra by Airtel’s third large data centre in Chennai. The 38 MW LEED certified facility is spread over 270,000 sq.ft. A key highlight of Airtel’s new data centre is that it is fully integrated with Airtel’s global submarine cable network, thereby, providing an end-to-end secure connectivity solution to hyperscalers. Bharti Airtel also has plans of investing Rs 5,000 crore over the next 3-4 years in its newly-launched data centre business in an effort to triple its capacity.

Airtel will scale up its data centre capacity through Nxtra by Airtel, a new business unit focusing solely on the data centre business. The telecom giant believes the data centre business could grow into a $4 billion market in the coming four years. Nxtra currently operates 10 large and 120 edge data centres located across India, added a Financial Express report.
