NTT’s Kolkata data center to be operational by March 2024

The first phase of global data center and telecom major NTT’s hyperscale hub in Kolkata, will be operational in the next six months. This new facility will have an initial proposed IT load capacity of 6 MW.

This new data center is part of NTT’s ambitious expansion plans in India, especially in Kolkata, where it has purchased a 7.5 acre plot in the Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub area of the New Town, located in the eastern part of the city.

Shekhar Sharma, CEO and MD of NTT Global Data Center & Cloud Infrastructure India, updated media persons about the progress made in building the new data center, while speaking on the sidelines of an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Kolkata recently.

NTT has facilities in more than 20 countries the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific region. At present, NTT has 16 data centers across India in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru, with a total installed capacity of 200 MW. It plans to scale this up to 400 MW over the next four years.

Earlier this year, NTT had announced plans to invest in subsea cable landing stations in Mumbai and Chennai. Over all, it plans to invest over US$ 2 billion in India over the next five years.
